ASTU has organized a successful capacity building training in collaboration with Education and Training Authority (ETA). The participants of the training include top management of the university, middle management members, and department heads.
Mrs. Fikiraddis Jima, Director of Education Quality Enhancement Directorate of ASTU, welcomed all the participants and highlighted the activities accomplished by the directorate.
Mrs. Fikiraddis noted that the capacity building training will give ASTU the opportunity to further bolster its efforts towards accreditation and maintain quality education.
Dr. Teshome Abdo, Vice President for Academic Affairs, made the opening speech. Dr. Teshome said that the training is organized at an important juncture for ASTU. Dr. Teshome noted that ASTU is making preparations for gaining autonomy. In connection with this, ASTU is finalizing self-evaluation by establishing different committees. He also stated that ASTU is better off in this regard as it has already joined ABET for accreditation of all its programs. Dr. Teshome also stated that all the programs in ASTU are have been mapped with the eight centers of excellence.
The capacity training was offered by Dr. Dunkana Nugusa, Deputy Director General of ETA. Dr. Dunkana stated that ASTU is making tremendous changes with the view of becoming a leading university and center of applied science and engineering. He appreciated the efforts of the university to get accreditation by internationally renowned firms and its preparedness in keeping abreast of time. Dr. Dunkana gave a very insightful, participatory training highlighting the underpinning concepts of quality assurance blended with practical experience.
