Mandate Analysis

  • Exclusively managing, insuring quality, monitoring, and maintenance of any ICT-related equipment.
  • Discarding any ICT equipment should be approved by ICT Directorate.
  • Any application software that is installed on ASTU ICT equipment should get the approval of the ICT Directorate.
  • Preparing ICT Policies, standards, and guidelines.
  • Request for any proprietary application software and operating systems should be first approved by ICT before further processing.
  • Managing, maintaining, upgrading, and expanding the network infrastructure, ICT Pools, SMART Rooms.

Background

Adama Science and Technology University (ASTU) is one of the two public universities designated as Science and Technology University. The university, ASTU is under the Minister of Science and Technology (MoST), and aggressively working on the development of science, technology and innovation throughout the country. ASTU is research oriented Science and Technology University which is working on demand driven, need based and problem solving researches which solve the challenges and gaps of the manufacturing industries in particular and the society at large. ASTU is alsodedicated to innovative knowledge through quality education and applied research by searching, adopting and innovating appropriate and up-to-date technologies to our local industriesandisworking to attain its vision and mission through research, quality education, transfer of appropriate and the state of the art technologies andneed based community services.
To achieve its vision and mission ASTU established its organizational structure so that it can easily address the challenges and problems of the society. Technology Transfer and Community Service office is one of the offices under the Office of vice president for Research and Technology Transfer established to undertake technology transfer and community service issues. The office is mainly working on searching, adopting, innovating and transferring of appropriate and up-to-date technologies and research oriented need based community services which solves the problems and challenges of the industries and the community.

Objectives

The main objectives of the office of Technology Transfer and Community Service are selecting, adopting, innovating and transferring up-to-date and appropriate technologies and providing research oriented and need based community services.

Main Activities

  • Create conducive environment for ASTUcommunitiesto participate in technology transfer and community service agendas,
  • Acquire and offer information for effective utilization of research results and project outputs,
  • Evaluate patentable ideas and assess their economic values,
  • Facilitate the growth, development, and successful transfer of new technologies to the industries and communities,
  • Engaging the community in searching, adopting and innovating up-to-date and appropriate technologies,
  • Disseminate to the community the principles and research outputs that solves the challenges and problems of  the industries and communities,
  • Encourage regional, national and international collaboration and foster community service, 
  • Identifying thematic areas for the community service agendas and technology transfer and giving them priorities

 

Background

Legal Matters Directorate is one of the Offices organized at a directorate level and is directly accountable to the University’s President. The major tasks of the directorate are providing consultancy services to ASTU’s Officials and Offices and defending the University’s interests at the court. Legal Matters Directorate is led by a director and has one coordinator, two legal officers, one secretary and one office assistant.

Vision

Legal Matters Directorate aspires to become the prominent part of the new ASTU and an office on which the University relies on for its reliable legal service.
Mission

Legal Matters Directorate is committed to provide quality legal consultancy service to ASTU’s Officials and Offices and defending University’s interests at courts. In the meantime, it tries to ensure the prevalence of rule of law in the University and endeavors to raise legal awareness of the University’s Community.

Main Services Offered by Legal Matters Directorate

  • Providing legal consultancy services;
  • Representing the University at courts of law;
  • Drafting internal rules and regulations of the University
  • Drafting contracts;
  • Witnessing singing of contracts;
  • Following up the performance of contracts; and
  • Creating legal awareness on new legislations and other pertinent laws.

Procedures for getting service

Legal Matters Directorate does not require users to follow up any special procedure in order get service. Any Office, Officer or employee of the University may get services concerning University’s business from Legal Matters Directorate by using the following means of communications:

  • Letters;
  • E-mails;
  • Telephone conversation; and
  • By appearing in person during office hours.

 

Background

As part of its mandate, our University’s International Relations and Corporate Communications Directorate is a pillar of the university and works closely with Schools, the University’s administration, students and staff. IRCCD is committed to develop communication strategies for the distribution of academic wise contents and research works through local, national and international news media as well as via online social networks.

The Office is also responsible to create the communication channel between Adama Science and Technology University (ASTU) and the public. It proactively informs the media (print, voice, TV), supports and consults the Managing Council and the Deans in public relations aspects.

International Affairs and Public Relations Directorate will work with individual Schools and institutes and centers to build a strategic communications plan to increase awareness and visibility of the research, expertise, accomplishments and mission and vision of ASTU.

The Office strives to build a positive image of ASTU in the public opinion and supports the President in international communication, fund raising endeavors and alumni relations. It jointly works with the University’s managing council and creates a corporate identity and a corporate design of activities with various work processes and units.

The General Objective of IRCCD:

  • To establish effective and smooth local and international relations and provide current information so as to enhance the transformational activities of ASTU in its endeavor to become the centre of excellence in science and technology.

Sub Objectives:

  • To promote and build academic excellence into every process of the University; ranging from Schools to department level and strengthen ASTU’s local and external relations on the basis of the core values and principles the University.
  • To provide necessary and accurate information available to academic and administrative staffs and students to facilitate informed decision making in very important issues.
  • To facilitate cooperation and collaborations with various local and international universities and organizations for strong partnership.

 What we do

  • Maintain internal and external communications of ASTU and create links with local and international universities;
  • Provide general information about the services offered by the University such as teaching, research, community services and administrative procedures to customers
  • Prepare listening point for any claims, suggestions or comments regarding the University;
  • Edit ASTU's annual report, prepare and distribute magazines, newsletters, brochures and flyers, hold press conferences, take care of media releases, get access to the University web portal and supervise and update the official website of the University regularly;
  • Facilitate custom clearance issues for donations delivered from foreign countries,
  • Facilitate the issuance of visa and residence ID card for expatriate staffs;
  • Organize and facilitate local and international conferences, seminars, workshops and arranges media releases;
