Adama Science and Technology University (ASTU) has launched a five-day training on ISO 9001:2015, the internationally recognized standard for Quality Management Systems (QMS). Organized by the College of Mechanical, Chemical, and Materials Engineering (CoMCME) in collaboration with the Educational Quality Enhancement Directorate (EQED), the training is taking place from March 3 to 7, 2025, with expert facilitation from the Institute of Ethiopian Standards (IES).

The opening session was led by Dr. Feleke Yehuwalashet, Assistant to the Academic Vice President, who emphasized the critical role of ISO 9001:2015 in strengthening ASTU’s commitment to academic and institutional excellence. In his remarks, he stated, “Implementing a robust Quality Management System is essential for ensuring efficiency, continuous improvement, and the highest standards in our academic and administrative processes.”

Throughout the training, participants, including College and department staff, engaged in comprehensive sessions covering the core principles of ISO 9001:2015, including:
✅ Process-based Quality Management
✅ Risk-based Thinking and Decision-making
✅ Performance Evaluation and Continuous Improvement
✅ Document Control and Standardization

The closing session featured remarks by Dr. Teshome Abdo, Vice President for Academic Affairs, who highlighted the importance of effectively implementing QMS principles at ASTU. He urged all participants to apply their newly gained knowledge, stating, “ISO 9001:2015 is not just a certification—it is a commitment to excellence. Its successful implementation will enhance ASTU’s operational effectiveness and academic impact.”

This training marks a significant step toward ensuring a culture of quality and efficiency at ASTU, reinforcing its vision to be a leading institution in science and technology education.
