On April 2, 2025, the College of Mechanical, Chemical, and Materials Engineering (CoMCME) and the College of Applied Natural Science (CoANS) proudly celebrated the successful completion of ISO/IEC 17025:2017 training, organized in collaboration with the Ethiopian Accreditation Service (EAS). The event marked a significant step toward strengthening laboratory competence and ensuring readiness for international accreditation standards.

The certification ceremony was officially opened by Dr. Tadele Negash, EQE Coordinator of CoMCME, who warmly congratulated the trainees on their achievement. In his opening remarks, he emphasized the importance of applying the knowledge gained and preparing for the implementation phase, stating, “This training is not the end—it’s the beginning of a journey toward internationally accredited, high-quality laboratory practices.”

The highlight of the event was the awarding of certificates of successful completion by Mr. Wondwosen Andualem, Deputy Director of the Ethiopian Accreditation Service. Following the ceremony, Mr. Wondwosen conducted a visit to the laboratories of both colleges, where he observed their current capabilities and discussed the critical role of laboratory accreditation in ensuring reliable and recognized scientific outputs.

In his message to the trainees and staff, Mr. Wondwosen stressed the importance of establishing a task force to lead the accreditation process, encouraging the colleges to take swift and strategic actions toward formal ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accreditation.

This milestone event demonstrates ASTU’s and its colleges’ continued commitment to excellence in research and laboratory operations, aligning with global standards to elevate institutional credibility and scientific integrity.
