Adama Science and Technology University, through its Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs, organized a two-day training program on HCERES Academic Program Accreditation Standards for academic staff members from May 28–29, 2026, at Borati Hall.
The training aimed to enhance participants’ understanding of national higher education quality enhancement and accreditation requirements.
The program brought together university management, academic leaders, college deans, department heads, quality enhancement experts, and instructors from various colleges of the university.

During the opening session, Dr. Lemi Guta President of ASTU emphasized the importance of maintaining academic quality and institutional excellence through continuous evaluation and accreditation processes. He noted that the training would strengthen the university’s ongoing efforts to improve curriculum delivery, teaching effectiveness, research activities, and community engagement.
The training sessions were delivered by Professor Olu Emmanuel Femi friom Jimma University. The sessions highlighted key areas of accreditation, including international evaluation and accreditation systems, HCERES evaluation philosophy, comparisons between ABET and HCERES standards, required accreditation documents, evaluation standards for international study programs, teaching policy, pedagogical organization of study programs, student pathways, and continuous improvement mechanisms.
Participants also engaged in discussions and practical sessions focusing on self-assessment techniques and preparation for accreditation reviews. The training created an opportunity for academic staff to exchange experiences and strengthen their understanding of quality assurance practices in higher education.
The program is expected to improve awareness among academic staff and support the university’s commitment to producing competent graduates and ensuring educational quality in line with national and international standards.
The training also featured engaging question-and-answer sessions and productive discussions among participants. The afternoon and second-day sessions focused on program-level discussions on accreditation across the university’s colleges.
