brikutASTU’s student wins the annual award of Ethiopian Physical Society!!!
Every year, the Ethiopian Physical Society in North American (EPSNA) awards undergraduate and graduate students who excel in Physics. Birku Tamiru, a 4th year student of Applied Physics from ASTU has won the 2020 undergraduate (UG) student award. She won this prestigious award in recognition of her highest scholastic achievement and service she provided to the community in the field of Physics. Birku received the certificate and cash on the 14th Annual Conference of Ethiopian Physical Society which was held in Arba Minch University from Feb, 7-8, 2020. It is recalled that last year, two postgraduate students of ASTU viz. Boka Fekedu and Minale Shegawu also won this prestigious prize in the category of PG on the 13th Annual Conference of Ethiopian Physical Society which was organized by ASTU.
Congratulations!!!

icpcnews1The ICPC is the world’s premiere university programming competition that is held globally. Last year alone, 40,266 students from 2,736 universities and 102 countries across the globe competed for the privilege of advancing to the ICPC World Finals. In the last 15 years, the competition was sponsored by IBM. Now many international corporations are waiting on the queue to sponsor this competition including Google and Facebook.
ICPC is the oldest, largest and most prestigious programming contest which has been exercised for the last four decades in the world. In Africa, this contest was conducted for the 21st time this year. ASTU, is the first University from Ethiopia which continuously participated in this contest beginning from 2017. In the 2019 South Africa Regional ICPC Contest, 12 African Universities participated and the ASTU team showed great character and professionalism as they ranked 2nd and 3rd. This is a great achievement and improvement for our team!! This was achieved as a result of the dedication of the participating students and their continual training and practice through the Computer Science and Engineering Club (CSEC-ASTU). The students of CSEC-ASTU are now more determined & highly motivated to qualify for the world finals!!
Viva team ASTU!!!
