College of Mechanical, Chemical, and Materials Engineering (CoMCME) at Adama Science and Technology University (ASTU) recently hosted a pivotal Industry Advisory Panel (IAP) meeting to review and refine the undergraduate Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and Materials Science and Engineering curriculum. The event brought together experts, academicians, and industry stakeholders to foster collaboration, share advancements, and ensure academic programs align with evolving industry needs.

Dr. Solomon Tiruneh, Administrative and development Vice President of ASTU, formally opened the session and highlights the importance of IAP in improving our educational system by shaping students practical skill via internship, teachers extern-ship exposure and collaboration for problem solving research. The discussion centered on the revised curriculum, which aims to meet ABET accreditation standards and enhance global competitiveness. Dr. Shimelis Lemma, Dean of CoMCME, emphasized the importance of aligning the curriculum with industry demands,  followed by Dr. Getinet Asrat, who outlined the objectives of the Industry Advisory Panel (IAP).

Participants praised the curriculum’s focus on problem-solving, engineering design, sustainability, and multidisciplinary teamwork. They also highlighted the integration of advanced, project-based courses and industry-standard software tools. Additionally, industry representatives underscored the value of internships in mentoring students and strengthening the academia-industry relationship.

This IAP meeting was a crucial step in shaping the future of engineering innovation and excellence. By uniting academia and industry, it paved the way for enhanced collaboration, ensuring ASTU graduates are well-prepared to meet both current and future industry demands.
