The objective of this center is to conduct the research and development in electrical systems, electronics development and intelligent systems with the intention of contributing to the country’s development and industrialization in science and technology. Analysis of the status of the electrical and electronic industry in Ethiopia (including information and communication) supports the need for fostering energy field and electrical/electronics industry, which has immediate national needs. Thus, the energy sectors including power generation, transmission, and distribution were considered by strengthening related research and development in the center in order to play a key role in the growth of the energy sector.
Further, an important research and development in the field of information communication technology, electronics design including semiconductor fabrications and characterizations, and autonomous system development will be targeted in addition to the cybersecurity system. Furthermore, the acquisition, processing, and delivery of data are very important factors in all industries after the third industrial revolution and in the fourth industrial revolution, which has already begun. In this regard, it is very urgent to consider the research, development, and innovation to integrate data acquisition, processing, and delivery such as IoT and big data dominates national competitiveness.
In order to address the objective of this center, systematic research thematic areas with integrated and structured research laboratories, and workshops were identified. Accordingly, four major research thematic areas, namely: power control and energy, electronics design, IoT and intelligent, cyber security and innovative software systems were considered. In line with this, in order to contribute in the overall country’s development and industrialization in science and technology, CESE consists of four main research laboratories (which are further divided into specific target).
