Love and Compassion Witness the Real Intent of Humanity: ASTU Students Share their Part

Adama Science and Technology University Students have supported people evacuated from the Oromia and Ethiopian Somali regions boarder due-to conflict.
The students have made the support by saving about 322,560 birr from their lunch budget and collecting 33,295 birr through fund raising campaign from limited money sent them from their parents to reach for the victims residing at different stations in Adama City.
Representatives of the students have handed over the collected items to H.E W/ro Adanech Abebe, Mayor of Adama City, in the presence of H.E Dr. Eng. Gethaun Mekuria, Minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Dr. Lemi Guta, President of Adama Science and Technology University and other government officials.
According to Megerssa Diriba, one of the students’ representatives, food, bottled water, canned nutritional milk, food oil, clothes, sanitary materials, and exercise books are donated to the victims. He added that students will keep on engaging in such kind of humanitarian activities.
H.E Dr. Eng. Gethaun Mekuria acknowledged the students’ effort which he said could be taken as the best model to other Higher Learning Institutions students in Ethiopia.
President of the University, Dr. Lemi Guta, has also appreciated the students for their self initiative humanitarian activity and promised to continuously support the victims in their future endeavors.
It is recalled that, the university has donated 5.6 million birr from monthly salary of its academic and admin staff. It has also supported 65 beds, 135 mattresses, 80 food plates and 24 cooking dishes. On top of money and material support, the university has assigned health and sanitary personnel that would serve the victims in Adama City.
On the occasion, students have shown their compassion by visiting the victims in their respective shades, cleaning the compound and washing the victims’ clothes.
Mayor of Adama City, H.E W/Zo Adanech Habebe expressing her gratitude for the love and the heart of humanity the students as part of the new generations have shown said, the regional government is working to settle the innocent people evacuated from their resource and family without committing any crime. She remarked that there is nothing impossible to be changed if people with positive minds are united to do good things like standing by the victims of the illegal eviction.
